This may sound silly but I have a lot of muscle on my back from years of bodybuilding and my job, AND that's where I carry body fat. There is too much bulk back there (because I have hopelessly narrow hips and a small but) and I'd like to trim it down–whether it's fat or muscle–will cool sculpting help?
Answer: Muscle will Survive CoolSculpting targets superficial fat, not deeper tissue such as muscle. CS forces the fat cells to go through a process called cryoliposis which basically means fat cell destruction. Over a period of 3 months your body works to detoxify and eliminate the destroyed fat cells. Muscle will not be effected, however if your back muscles have not been used for body building in a very long time, there may be more adipose tissue than muscle. It would be best to schedule a consult at a certified CoolSculpting facility in a board certified plastic surgeon's office near you. Your provider will be better able to assess you and recommend the most appropriate treatment to help you to achieve your goals.

Answer: CoolSculpting should not reduce muscle mass CoolSculpting utilizes Cryolipolysis, a technique using extreme cold temperatures to destroy the layers of fat cells. The surrounding, healthy tissues are unaffected during the treatment, remaining completely safe. Over the weeks following a CoolSculpting procedure, the body will naturally metabolize the lifeless cells. A 25-35% reduction in fatty tissue can be seen once the area has completely healed. CoolSculpting will not target muscle or other non fatty tissues. My recommendation would be to schedule a consultation in the office of a board certified plastic surgeon and undergo a physical assessment.

Answer: CoolSculpting and Muscle You have asked an excellent question. CoolSculpting does not affect muscles as they are far more difficult to cool than fat due to the high blood flow in muscles. As the skin is not susceptible to cold injury at the temperatures that injure fat and as muscle is difficult to cool, fat is preferentially injured by the Coolsculpting technique.

Answer: Effects of Coolsculpting in muscle Coolsculpting targets the tissue that gets pulled into the applicator. In other words, fat gets pulled in so it is targeted. There should be no effect on muscle.

Answer: CoolSculpting treatments lead to permanent fat loss CoolSculpting is designed not to effect the deeper tissues like the muscles. A physical examination from a qualified provider like a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon will be helpful. Body reshaping can be performed with a cannula that removes fat via liposuction or with noninvasive technology like Cool Sculpting. With Cool Sculpting there is no cannula inserted into your body. All treatments are performed on the surface from the outside in using technology that freezes the fat. Don’t hesitate to give us a call in Austin regarding a Body Reshaping Consult at the Upper Room. On our Facebook Page there is an Interview I recently did with KVUE, a local news station in Austin, that was picked by affiliates around the United States, including Miami. During the Interview we discussed the technology of Cool Sculpting as well as it application process. The discomfort from treatment does resolve. Taking over the counter tylenol or naproxen resolves this in the majority of cases. If you have swelling that is persistent then a waist binder is helpful.
