I am 1 year post-op abdominoplasty with muscle repair and lipo. Immediately after surgery there was a lump on the upper right of my abdomen. I was told to do massages to get rid of it, I did massages and still after 1 year it is still there! It is also getting bigger. What procedure will best get rid of this lump? It is really bothering me! Thank you for your time!

Answer: Lump after tummy tuck. Telling patients to massage areas of uneven Ness after body contouring is one of the oldest tricks in the book. It’s not possible to change your body contour through massage. It would be helpful to find out if this mass represents how your skin and fat drapes off your torso, a fluid collection or possibly related to the muscle tightening. Most likely office best Liposuction would be the best option to even it out. If this is a fluid collection which I do not think that it should be treated differently. I would encourage you to get an in person consultation with your provider as a follow up visit and have him or her address your concerns. To get an accurate assessment and give you a more accurate recommendation you will need to be seen in person. Follow up with your provider. Best, Mats Hagstrom MD
