I have a weak chin that is quite noticeable from the side. I've seen on the internet that you would require jaw surgery if your occlusion is not class 1 which fortunately is not the case for me but I still want to know what answer I would get from a surgeon if I went into a consultation.

Jaw surgery (orthognathic surgery) depends on both aesthetic analysis and, more importantly, on occlusion, since its primary goal is to align the jaws and teeth to achieve a stable and functional bite. In patients with a normal (Class I) occlusion, it is usually not the first option if the concern is mainly cosmetic. Based on what you’re describing, the issue is more likely related to chin projection rather than the position of the entire mandible, and in those cases it can typically be corrected with a sliding genioplasty, which allows controlled advancement of the chin and improves profile balance without the need for full jaw surgery. With telemedicine, a fairly accurate preliminary recommendation can be made using intraoral photographs and cephalometric X-rays, although a final surgical plan should always be confirmed with an in-person evaluation.
