Is it possible to avoid seromas without using drains for this simple procedure? Does the surgeon need to use a special technique to prevent seromas? What is the likelihood of a seroma forming if drains are not used?

Answer: Drains Drains are used to help prevent fluid collection after surgery and promote healing. Each surgeon has her/his own preference with regard to use of drains. It can also vary on a patient by patient basis. If drains are used they typically are in place from only a few days to a couple of weeks. I encourage you to discuss your concerns with your surgeon.
