Accutane and contradictions

I wish you all the best in your recovery and happy you are already having a progress! We used to think in the past that you can not do procedures while being on accutane. This was based on a very limited data, but many dermatologists used this to avoid lasers and procedures when the patient is on accutane and this information got to the package of the drug as well. Recently, it was shown to be not true. I quote American Society of Dermatologic Surgery for you "While the isotretinoin package insert advises discontinuation for 6 months before cosmetic procedures because of the risk of scarring, the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery (ASDS) task force concludes that there is insufficient evidence to justify delaying treatment". Additionally, accutane may improve active lesions you have and sometimes even improve appearance of the scars, so it would be wise to start it as early as possible. The question when to do another laser procedure would be the best to ask your provider who can evaluate the progress. Ideally, I would choose the board certified dermatologist who is doing both - medical treatment with accutane and your face resurfacing with lasers. Oftentimes, combination with other procedures (mix of lasers, peels, and subscisions) give the best results.
