Should I lose weight before smartlipo?

Question

I want to get done my smartlipo in 2 weeks, my current weight is 180 but I don't know if would be a good idea to try to lose a few pounds before my procedure or if it wouldn't make any difference? Because I am considering to move the date of my lipo if the losing weight would be worth it before the lipo.

Picture this: you struggle your hardest to drop 10 pounds in 2 weeks, semi starved, then you have lipo, you can't keep the weight off because the extreme diet was too tough to maintain and you're a forced couch potato for a few weeks. Bam! You'll rebound hard and your new fatness will cause your lipo result to appear lumpy simply because you gained weight. Repeat the same scenario without the weight loss and you'll have no trouble maintaining your current weight and your results. No lumps, no problem. Lose the weight afterwards and do it slowly and you'll be in tip top shape.

I find that my patients lose more weight by having liposuction done and then going full blast into exercise, diet, and supplementation.  Atlhough liposuction is not a weight loss tool, it can give significant results in contour and shaping and help decrease body weight and size enough to which you can get even more benefit from exeercise and diet following surgery. Hello. Thanks for your question. If you are in good overall condition from a clinical standpoint you don't need to lose weight prior to Smartlipo of problem areas. The treatment is certainly not for weight loss, only body contouring in appropriately selected patients. Consult with a BCPS to help with your decision. Best of luck.

I don't think rapid weight loss is a good idea.  I don't recommend losing more than one or two pounds per week.  Two weeks is not really long enough to make a difference.  Ask your surgeon what he or she thinks.  Please also consider their scheduling needs before moving dates around.  If you change your date, are you really going to lose weight? If you know you can and will lose weight, then I suppose you can make an argument that postponing your surgery may be a good idea. It's really too individualistic of a question.
