What is the difference of lose 40 pounds between Lipo and exercising?

It's important to know that liposuction is a contouring procedure, and is not meant for weight loss. The amount of fat that is removed does not way that much. Liposuction is used to decrease the fullness of areas of the body that are out of proportion to the surrounding tissues.If your goal is to lose weight, then consider losing it with diet and exercise. After you have reached a long-term stable weight consultation with a plastic surgeon may be useful to help determine if there are any procedures that would help you obtain your goals. After significant weight loss many patients have excess skin. Excess skin is not treated with liposuction procedures and typically requires excision. One example would be the tummy. A full tummy tuck is used to remove loose skin after weight loss.

Loosing 40 pounds would dramatically improve your figure, and most likely give you a better result then liposuction. Not only will you look better you will feel better.If after you loose 40 pounds there are contour irregularities you could consider liposuction.  You should definitely attempt to lose weight. 40 pounds liposuction is almost unheard of. Liposuction is not a body weight loss operation. It is for body contouring.

The two are drastically different.Liposuction will only remove fat in areas treated, hence your fat distribution will be permanently changed.Weight loss will allow you to keep your current fat distribution, and you will lose fat from all areas.I think you will find an almost universal support for weight loss over liposuctioning 40 lbs of fat.Best of luck,Mats Hagstrom, M.D.

Although some weight is lost with any liposuction procedure, liposuction should not be considered a weight reduction treatment.  Liposuction is primarily a body contouring treatment and it would be nearly impossible to lose 40 lbs. through liposuction alone.  There can be areas of fat that can be extremely resistant to weight loss through dieting (lateral thighs in women,  flanks in men, etc) for these situations liposuction can be ideal for reshaping the body.  Certain dietary supplements, such as protein whey shakes can help reduce hunger and can help reduce weight along with a good exercise program.  Best wishes, Dr. Lepore.
