I typically encourage restraint when starting a new therapy (of any kind). Some regular shedding is to be expected. Patients will often need 2-3 months before they begin to see results of any intervention. As always, discuss your concerns with a board certified plastic surgeon (ABPS) with experience in hair restoration.

It is typical for shedding to occur within the first two weeks to a month after starting Minoxidil. Typically it will take 3-4 months to see where minoxidil haults, slows down, or reverses the thinning or shedding of hair. Give it time and have an evaluation by a hair loss specialist for a plan that addresses your reason for using it.

Shedding within the first few months of Rogaine use is not abnormal.  The hairs that shed are subsequently replaced by thicker ones.

It would not be correct to read much into these findings at such an early time point. Shedding can occur in the first 2 months. The hairs that are shed depend on the stage of your hair loss.

Everyone sheds about 100 hairs per day. What you are seeing is not abnormal at all so don't worry about normal shedding. You will replace what you shed

It is normal to go through a short period of shedding within 2-6 weeks after starting minoxidil.  This is the shedding phase of the hair in response to being stimulated to create new growth - so it is a good sign!  It can last a few months.  usually by 6 months it stops and then at 12 months you see the results - so don't give up!
