There are a few options to speed up hair regrowth. Minoxidil will increase blood flow to the scalp. Low level laser therapy stimulates follicles. And PRP or platelet rich plasma injections add growth factors to the area to stimulate growth and thickness.
This needs an in-person evaluation. I recommend getting a formal evaluation with a hair loss expert to go over your condition and advise you on best treatment options. There are great non-invasive options like prp/progesterone and/or hair transplantation. See an expert. Best, Dr. Emer
If hair loss from this that condition is permanent because of hair bulb damage , that only way for regrowth is hair restoratin surgery . You may try to use minoxidil and PRP treatments
The answer to your questions depends on how long you have been pulling and how much damage has been done to the hair and scalp. A dermatologist can guide you. Growth promoting agents like minoxidil and low level laser might help if you have not been pulling very long and if there is not much in the way of damage under the scalp. Many patients with trichotillomania also have some degree of inflammation under the scalp too which benefits from short term use of a corticosteroid. Please see a dermatologist.
Compulsive hair pulling for short periods of time will not result in permanent hair loss but trichotillomania over prolonged periods can lead to alopecia. If the hairs are re-growing, this is a good prognostic sign. Low level light therapy, minoxidil and platelet rich plasma are all things that might accelerate re-growth, but it is possible that full recovery will occur on its own over time. The most important thing is to avoid further hair pulling. In most cases, this requires professional help and support.
Hair loss from this condition is often permanent. If you are getting regrowth, that is great and it means that you have not destroyed some of the hair follicles. A hair transplant usually is the best approach if you are not longer picking on your hair
I recommend following up with the prescribing Doctor about usage and duration recommendations. Prp/progesterone and/or hair transplantation are great non-invasive options. See an expert. Best, Dr. Emer
The best overall option would be to have a hair transplant surgery. If you are looking for a non-surgical solution, I would recommend oral finasteride instead of topical. You can continue with minoxidil topically or add Z82 which contains ingredients that enhance penetration and promote growth....
You are under the care of a doctor so I would follow the advise you are given unless you want to meet with another doctor for a second opinion
