What's the best way to remove my epidermal nevus on my forehead? (photo)

I have extra skin growth from my birth. I have consulted a doctor and she asked me to do a shave excision and there will be stitches which will result in a scar. I want to know what is the best available treatment for me for the removal of the skin with no scar.

No mole can be removed without scarring. Silicone based scar gels with growth factors are best --- dermaflage, bioshield -- after shave or laser removal.  You may begin using as soon as the skin is healed. Lasers and micro needling can also be used for improvement. I suggest you see an experienced dermatologist for appropriate wound care, healing and to limit the amount of scarring. Best, Dr. Emer

I would recommend excising the epidermal nevus on your forehead to completely remove it.  A shave excision could be done, but it would not completely remove the lesion.  The resulting scar you would have from surgical excision would be much less noticeable than the nevus.

A shave excision means that the nevus with only the most superficial layer of skin is removed in order to minimize injury to the underlying dermis which translates into scarring. Because the excision is very superficial, the likelihood of recurrence of the epidermal nevus overtime is quite possible if any cells extending to the dermal junction from the nevus are left behind. In order to fully remove the nevus and avoid recurrence, a full-thickness excision can be performed. This will most certainly result in a fine-line scar at your hairline but because the entire nevus is cut out, recurrence is unlikely. The forehead heals remarkably well. It is important to keep in mind that regardless of the procedure performed, there is no guarantee that you can avoid a scar. For the best treatment options, it is important to visit a specialist who can perform an in-person examination.
