How much redness and inflammation is expected 2-3 days post medium chemical peel?

I had a medium chemical peel done 3 days ago to treat melasma. Everything was pretty fine other than the expected peeling. But then around dinner time during Thanksgiving (Day 2), it began to get inflamed, really red and irritated, and my lotion stung when I put it on seeming to make it worse. It still red and feels tight/ inflamed around my cheeks and chin this morning in blotchy patterns but not quite as hot. Is this just a normal part of the process or should I be worried there’s an infection?

Without know which chemical was used to perform the chemical peel it is difficult to assess the degree of redness that is to be expected after a peel. Regardless, if the redness becomes painful or swelling worsens, you should contact your practitioner who performed the peel for a follow up.
