Compression garment after severe gynocemastia: how long?

I ask my patients to wear a compression vest for 4-6 weeks after gynecomastia surgery.  Many of them like to wear it longer because they get used to the support it offers.  Wearing the vest longer is fine if it is comfortable.  
Best advice for any individual patient is to check with your surgeon for their specific post-op protocols.

final swelling will take up to six months to resolve. I typically recommend my patients wear compression for 3-4 weeks, by then most swelling is gone and the rest can resolve slowly but surely.  check with your surgeon as to when he recommends stopping as it does vary between surgical techniques.

Every surgeon has his/her set of preferred instructions, which often are tailored on the specific case on the basis of the combination of surgical techniques used, lifestyle etc.  On average, I do advice my patients to wear the compression garment for about 4 to 6 weeks (with short breaks of 2 hours per day after the first 2 weeks). I would speak with your surgeon about their specific recommendations. After gynecomastia surgery I ask my patients to wear a compression vest for the first four weeks. When liposuction has been performed it takes 6-9 months to see the the final results. However, you'll notice a dramatic improvement in swelling in the first two months. You should check with your surgeon on this. For my patients, I want them to wear it 24/7 for 6 weeks except when showering. Good luck!

Every surgeon has his or her own unique post op protocol so speak with your doctor. I typically advise my gynecomastia patients to wear their garment 24/7 for the first 3 weeks after surgery and then 12 hours a day for the following 2 months. Hope this helps.
