Bowel habits after BBL surgery?

I'm considering BLL. However, I strain A LOT during bowel movements and I have to sit on the toilet seat for an hour 2x a day. I would like to know how BLL would affect my unique bowel situations after the surgery. Thanks.

Hi! This is a great question to ask. The truth is that many of the medications, especially pain medications, that are prescribed to you for your surgical procedure can cause constipation. This is extremely common in patients right after surgery. Unfortunately it can also add to pain and discomfort by causing bloating and abdominal distention. I tell all of my patients to start taking Milk of Magnesia every day after surgery and if a good bowel movement is not had by day three, a dulcolax suppository. As for sitting on the toilet seat, if you sit far enough back on the seat so that your weight is all on your upper thighs and not on your butt, you should be just fine!Good luck on your recovery!

One of these options may keep you from applying pressure to your hips or buttocks. If you have a sturdy grab bar by the toilet, hold on to it.  If you cannot squat, purchase a raised toilet seat with rails. Be careful not to fall in using either option.
