Does chin lipo hurt?

Question

I want to know how painful chin lipo is? I know doctors use local anesthesia but does it hurt to get the anesthesia? Is it one injection per cheek? Can you please give me some idea? Thanks

Chin liposuction is my preferred treatment for excess submental fat. I use both tumescent anesthesia and intravenous anesthesia so patients have no discomfort during the procedure. Most patients experience no pain following the procedure because there is a few weeks of skin numbness in the neck. The feeling usually returns completely within 4-6 weeks. The results are far superior to Kybella because the entire jawline can be treated providing a smooth, well contoured and youthful jawline.

Chin liposuction is performed with a 2 mm liposuction cannula through a 2 mm incision hidden in the chin fold. The procedure can be performed under local anesthetic, sedation, or general depending on patient preference. The patient goes home the same day. The patient wears a compression garment around the head for the first few days to a week. There will be some bruising and swelling that will quickly fade.

Hello,Thanks for your question. Chin lipo under local anesthesia is very well tolerated. The injections are the hardest part but they go quickly. If you surgeon has a Pronox device, you can breathe on nitrous oxide while getting the injections, and this helps a bunch. Liposuction under the chin can be done using different types of anesthesia.  Normally, the area is injected with a local anesthetic and once this is done the area is completely numbed.  The injection of the anesthetic hurts a little bit, but I have not had anyone tell me it was bad.  The type of anesthesia used will also influence the sensation of any pain.  I normally use some IV sedation and pain medication, which makes the injection of the anesthetic less painful.

Chin liposuction can be performed safely in the office under local anesthesia without much discomfort. We use a numbing solution where our patients feel the first injection, but start to become very numb after that.
