Can the capsule get bacteria, fungus, mold or cause cancer if it stays in body after explant?

Hello @eli_godliness, thank you for your question. The capsule stays in the body it does not get reabsorbed and your body can show responses to the capsules. Also it would be necessary to carry out a preventive biopsy on each capsule. Leaving a capsule behind is preferred if it is thin and pliable. If there are calcific components, or silicone granulomatous material, or if the capsule is deforming the breast tissue, then removal of the capsule may be warranted. In general, saline (a relatively innocuous substance) leaking is not going to cause issues as your body will likely absorb this. A number of scientific studies have demonstrated the safety of silicone implants; yet, many patients continue to have anxiety about their use.

it is hard to tell for sure without an examination. Generally speaking, if your capsules are thin then they can be left inside and body will reabsorb it. If you are considering surgery, I would suggest you consult a board-certified plastic surgeon. Only after a thorough examination, you will get more information and recommendations.

Many thin saline capsules tend to dissolve with time. The capsule will not become infected unless an infection is introduced to that area. A rare lymphoma has been reported in capsules around textured implants, but no other cancer has been reported in capsules. Please discuss your concerns with your surgeon.
