I am scheduled for an in-office procedure in a few weeks for submental liposuction under my chin. I am 30, thin, and have had a double chin since childhood (runs in the family). Is Vaser Liposuction the right choice? How long will my recovery be and what will it look like? Any other questions I should ask my doctor? Particularly concerned about being presentable for work ~5 days post op

Answer: The Recovery For Submental (chin) Vaser Liposuction Many studies indicate that there is less injury to the body with Vaser than with traditional #liposuction. Recovery from Vaser Liposuction is based on the level of soreness and bruising experienced by the patient. But, it can vary among patients. As with traditional liposuction, there are no large incisions or effect on the muscle and other underlying tissue. Therefore, #healing time may be less than anticipated by most. Healing, in general, can take up to one month for the majority of swelling to subside, incisions to close, sutures to come out, and for bruising to completely go away. Wearing a #compression garment may be suggested the first week and then nightly for up to six weeks. The swelling will also continue to diminish. So, you must be patient. It is also not uncommon to be experiencing some #lumps following neck and chin procedures. Some degree of firmness or lumpiness under the skin is normal after surgery and will resolve with time. Local #massage of the areas may accelerate the resolution of this problem, which normally takes 2-4 months to disappear completely. The lumps should diminish with time. If not, your doctor can provide suggestions for this concern. Your incisions will go through many changes before seeing the final result of your procedure. The final results of the procedure are typically most noticeable 2-4 months following the #Vaser. If ever during your healing, you have any concerns, it is suggested to call your board-certified surgeon or their medical staff to discuss.

Answer: VASER for Submental Thanks for your question. The optimal procedure for the chin is VASER liposuction. In your case, the best procedure would be VASER along with J plasma in order to tighten the skin. In terms of recovery time, a properly done procedure should be 4 weeks in order to get back to work. For more information or questions, please consult a certified VASER specialist.
