Answer: Telogen Effluvium is caused by a mental or physical stress Androgentic Alopecia is genetic, slowly progressive and usually there are other family member with thinning hair for both females and males. Telogen effluvium is when your hair is falling out by the roots on a more sudden basis usually 3-4 months after a traumatic event like the birth of a baby, extreme weight loss or a major surgery. Sometimes you can have both going on at the same time. Normally when the stressful event passes, the hair will recover but it can take 1-2 years. However, if life continues to be stressful or there is a medication that is causing the telogen effluvium, it can become chronic. I would go back to either of the doctors you saw and see if they can help you sort it out. Getting a third opinion may only complicate the picture.

Answer: Telogen effluvium vs Androgenetic Alopecia Androgenetic Alopecia is an inherited condition in which a pattern of hair loss usually appears. This can occur in men and women, and the patterns of hair loss are easily recognizable and it is often permanent. The loss is often frontal and works its way back.Telogen effluvium on the other hand is a form of alopecia (hair loss) that occurs on a temporary basis, cycling on and off. Hair usually regrows with this condition. The loss is generally all over the head and does not develop a pattern that is evident to the eye. This condition is often stress related.
