Swelling and pain in the ankles after liposuction. Is this normal?

I had liposuction three weeks ago on the flanks, bra roll and three area abdominal, three days after the procedure I noticed my ankle was swollen and sore now the other ankle is sore is this normal?

Although this is probably no problem I would certainly report to situation to your surgeon. He may want to check you for deep venous obstruction if your liposuction procedure took a long time.

Hello and thank you for your question. It is common for patients to experience swelling and soreness after liposuction. Recent MRI studies have shown that swelling after liposuction continues for up to 9 months after the procedure, although the majority of swelling subsides within 6 weeks. Swelling dependent to the areas worked on is very common after liposuction. This can be intermittent in nature and you may experience it months after your surgery. It is always best to rule out something more serious like a DVT, so make sure to contact your surgeon with concerns like this.
