After lipo. 8 days out and my back is totally numb.... is this normal?? (photos)

I've left my nurse a message but no response as of yet... I'm really swollen but know this is normal...still in lots of pain... is my compression garment too small..how do we know?? My Dr is in Florida I'm in NY

I am concerned about the garment being too tight as you can see the markings being left on your skin. I would recommend foam to avoid the pleating that is happening from the garment. Numbness is very normal at this stage of the recovery process and the swelling is definitely evident in your photos. Good luck.

liposuction is normal in the immediate days after liposuction.  . You will have
pain with activities and contour irregularities after 1 week. Numbness can persist for several weeks after surgery.    Discuss your concerns with your Plastic Surgeon and follow

Numbness of the skin commonly occurs after liposuction. This is more common when it is assisted by a laser as is more significant pain. All of this should resolve in time.

It is normal to feel soreness/pain after liposuction. The garment actually helps patients feel better because it helps with the swelling. The garment should be snug but obviously, if you feel you can't move or have trouble breathing while wearing it, it is too tight. Are you able to email your doctor in Florida? You may want to check in with them tomorrow about your garment. I do see indentations under your breasts and your mid and lower back; it does seem to be too small. It is completely normal to have numbness. Numbness after any surgical procedure is expected for several weeks to several months. The nerves to the areas of liposuction have been traumatized; they are not currently firing. This will resolve over the next several weeks and months, sometimes it may take even longer even up to 2 years. As the nerves regenerate, you will begin to experience burning, itching, electric shocks, tingling etc. Massaging these areas helps to desensitize the nerves and usually normal sensation returns. Thank you for your question. Liposuction commonly causes temporary numbness from a number of reasons including swelling. The swelling is the worst the first couple of days and then begins to resolve after that. The numbness and swelling will usually resolve over the next several weeks.

During liposuction the nerves can be irritated. This will cause a temporary numbness (neuropraxia). As time passes, the nerves recover. This varies from person to person but usually always resolves. Every day your swelling should get a bit better. I would be patient and give it more time.

It is not unusual to have some numbness in areas where liposuction has been performed. It would be rare to have no sensation. Talk with your surgeon about these issues. If you cannot reach them you should try to see if you can make an appointment with a local plastic surgeon.
