Capsular contracture?? 8 weeks post op, what can I do to prevent it from getting worse? (photo)

At 8 weeks, it may be that your implant hasn't completely settled and your pocket may be a little tight or you could be developing early capsular contracture. Implants placed above the muscle have a higher rate of contracture than those placed under the muscle. Massage and the compression band can help. I have not had any success with montelukast(Singular) and the data in the literature supporting its uses is mainly from a small study that was not randomized. It won't hurt to use it, but it probably won't help much. Ultrasound therapy has shown some benefit, but again, the studies are limited. Surgical revision either to open a pocket that was just tight, or to remove the capsule for capsular contracture may be necessary if you don't improve by 4-4 months after surgery.

Dear Boobies1985,Capsular contracture affects people approximately one in 20.  No one knows exactly what causes it and what can prevent it completely. It's important for your doctor to use a minimal incision and a Keller funnel as a sleeve to protect the implant from touching anything before goes into the breast pocket.  Singulair has been shown to prevent it Daniel Barrett, MD

It seems as though you are doing everything to prevent the contracture from getting worse. Be patient and continue following up with your surgeon.

Hi - I think this early in your healing period one can't assume it is capsular contracture.  For a variety of reasons an implant needs more time to settle.  I think being proactive is a fine approach though.  Catching things earlier rather than later is important. Your operating surgeon will be the one who knows for sure as they will be seeing you on a regular basis and can compare.
