I had my tummy tuck done 15 months ago. There is still numbness in lower abdomen incision and I feel vibration. Is it normal?

Although uncommon, permanent
numbness can occur after tummy tuck surgery, especially in the lower mid
line area between the scar and belly button. After 15 months there can be
some improvement but it is doubtful. In most cases there is some sensation
present, just not the normal pre-surgical amount. The good news is that it does
not affect your normal functions and with time, most people are no longer aware
or concerned with its presence.

Thanks for your question. As far as swelling, this is somewhat normal. Depending on the patient, swelling and numbness can possibly last for more than one year. You should notify your surgeon about the vibration sensation you feel.Hope this helps,Dr. JSB

Thank you for your question. Unfortunately, numbness is a very common complication after tummy tuck. After a year, most patients have regained most of their sensation. However, it is rare to regain all of your sensation. You should discuss this with your plastic surgeon. They might have used a different technique and they would be best qualified to predict the timing and amount of recovery. 

Hello, some patients will have an area of residual numbness after a tummy tuck, although most people do not report that it is very concerning (it is not an area where full sensation is as important as fingertips, for example).  If you have concerns about odd sensations you could book followup with your PS to ensure everything has healed normally.
