Guaze or tegaderm on incision area?

Question

Had 17yr old saline impants, under muscle removed 5 days ago. They covered insision with tegaderm. Tegaderm came off and smelled so I took them all off. Sprayed with saline. Should i put guaze or a tegaderm back over? Neosporine? Theres also a place that doesn't look sewn together, it burns a bit. My follow up isnt for 4 more days. Thanks for the help.

Thank you for sharing your question.  If you are having drainage from your incision sites I would recommend applying gauze with a small amount of non-antibiotic ointment, such as Aquaphor.  Best to always seek out your surgeon's advice as they know the full details of your procedure.

Now that your tegaderm has fallen off, I would use gauze, or telfa pad. Either is probably fine, and other options are also available. Its most important to keep the wound clean and dry. The slight open area sounds normal - its unlikely to not be sewn together so much as the wound edges may have opened from a loosened suture. The burning is also consistent with a recent surgical procedure. Best of luck on your recovery. Always consult with your operating surgeon if things change.

Best to alert your doctor about the area that has opened and send a selfie for advice.Tegaderm is fine, or you can use antibiotic ointment and gauze.

I would suggest that you communicate your questions/concerns directly by your plastic surgeon for specific/relevant advice. Until you are able to do so, I would suggest that you utilize a nonstick dressing such as Adaptec or xeroform, covered by a sterile dressing. I would avoid Tegaderm.  Tegaderm is occlusive and holds the fluid from the wound against the scan and can cause infection.  I would use an antibiotic ointment and light bacitracin and dry gauze and definitely would not reapply Tegaderm.  Of course notify your plastic surgeon
