I have some capillaries on the top, bottom and middle of my nose and also on my cheek and am hoping to get them removed. My question is this...is an IPL safe when fired this close to the eyes? I wore Laser-Aid Disposable Eye Shields by Honeywell when I had ear hair removed but I could still see bright white flashes when the IPL was fired off so I know I will see even brighter flashes if I get my nose and face treated. Is this normal and safe to see flashes? How do I protect my eyes?
Answer: IPL is Safe to treat Broken Capillaries Special Goggles, or opaque laser shields must be worn with every laser treatment, regardless of area treated. Visible capillaries on the top, bottom and middle of your nose and cheek are commonly treated with lasers safely given operator is experienced and the eyes are protected.

Answer: Another option for treating broken capillaries is VBeam. Our office has many different treatments for skin and scars depending on the depth of atrophy or hypertrophy. Scars require a combination approach using our HI DEF protocol which uses a combination of lasers, topical scar modulation, and RF treatments to pixelate scars, improve contour, reduce hyperpigmentation, and improve the visibility of the scars so that they are no longer visible in ambient light. Everyone has a unique pattern of scarring and we employ our HIDEF technique to improve texture, color, contour, and topography. We often use a combination of treatments that begin with a careful examination to examine the micro texturing of the acne scars. Atrophic scars and indented scars can benefit from injectable fillers such as Radiesse, Sculptra, and Restylane with or without subcision to remove tethered scars and atrophic depression. Hyper-redness in scars can be improved with V beam laser, Excel V, BBL, IPL, and Venus RF to improve the redness and reduce the visibility of deep scars. Fractional Thulium laser and clear & brilliant can also reduce the inflammation and redness of the scar when combined with topical therapy. Fractional lasers such as Fraxel, erbium, and CO2 laser can be combined with radio frequency and also fractional RF to improve textual issues and microtopography. Subcision and TCA cross are also used for deep ice pick scars and narrow valley scars in order to improve the micro texture. Above all, our combination approach with our clinical nurses and board-certified plastic surgeons can improve the quality of your skin by using at home Melarase creams combined with PRP treatments in our office to improve your skin quality and tone. I recommend getting a formal evaluation with an experienced team of experts in order to reduce your scarring. Finally, hyperpigmentation of scars can be improved with at-home Melarase AM, Melarase PM, and Melapads to help reduce active PIH and melanin deposition. Best, Dr. Karamanoukian Realself100 Surgeon

Answer: Can you treat by the eye area with IPL The first thing is that you should always make sure you are seeing an experienced technician and office for any IPL services. Your results will be determined by the machine, the settings, and the experience of your technician. It is safe to use IPL by the eyes as long as you are not in the soft tissue (orbital rim). When treating with IPL we treat up to the bone in that area and lightly pull down on any close skin to make sure we are getting full contact with the treatment head. The nose is a bit hard to treat, but can absolutely be effectively treated with IPL. The flashes are fine to see as long as you are wearing supplied goggles or eye shields. Either are fine and will protect your eyes the way they are supposed to. "This answer has been solicited without seeing this patient and cannot be held as true medical advice, but only opinion. Seek in-person treatment with a trained medical professional for appropriate care."
