Two days after IPL photofacial large dark areas on face, "dirty look" is this normal? (Photo)

Question

I had the IPL photofacial done two days ago. Now, I have large dark spots and a general dirty appearance to my skin. I thought most result in small spots of pigment rises but the entire area is hyper pigmented. The skin does not yet feel dry, though I am applying and reapplying aloe gel and sunscreen face lotion. I am nervous that this has just pulled up pigment that won't flake or fall off. Should I be worried or does this progress look normal for the 2nd day post treatment?

It seems you had a very aggressive treatment and got burned, I suggest following up with your medical provider and seek a laser tech who is very experienced using IPL on all skin types. The skin can get sensitive with sunlight and pigment could worsen, make sure to apply spf consistently to prevent the skin from darkening.

It appears that you have some burns on your skin from this treatment.  My main concern for you is that you will have residual scarring and/or post inflammatory hyperpigmentation. That is a burn from IPL. You were overtreated and burned. You need to contact the office that treated you. You need to keep the area very moist, and it would be best if you can get a prescription like Betamethasone Ointment to apply liberally over the next few days. Keep it moist and out of the sun! Do not pick at any scabs or blisters. Hopefully the burn is superficial and will not cause long-term damage - it's too early to say though. I'm very sorry. This was a really bad treatment.
