Is it safe to have breast augmentation if I have had scoliosis surgery?

I hope tht you have done well after your scoliosis surgery and it sounds like you have. There should be no reason that scoliosis surgery stops you from getting breast implants. Remember also that you are not old enough to get silicone implants yet. A full consult with a bc plastic surgeon can help you go through the breast augmentation process. It should not be a problem to have breast augmentation surgery. I have treated a number of women who have scoliosis.

Great question and certainly one worth asking.  There is nothing about Scoliosis surgery specifically that would prevent you from having breast augmentation.  Part of an exam is to check for scoliosis but that is just to identify anything before surgery that might lead to asymmetry after surgery.  Sometimes it is there and worth noting, oftentimes there is some scoliosis and it doesn't change what we do or the results we would expect.  Take your time with your decision and find a surgeon you like and trust in an office that makes you know you are welcome.Best,Dr. Pyle

Breast augmentation should not pose any risks to the rods in your back.  However, depending on the type of surgery you had done and the current stresses on the remaining spine (the areas without rods), you may want to consider not getting overly large implants.  Larger implants may cause stress on your spine and lead to pain in the future.  Typically, if you stay in the 350cc or less range, you should be fine.  If in doubt, you may want to check with your spine surgeon.

Hi and thanks for your question. I don't see any contraindication for an augmentation surgery at all. I would make sure that you let your plastic surgeon know that you've had the spine surgery so he/ she can give you the appropriate preoperative prophylaxis antibiotic regimen recommended by the orthopedic society.
