I'm thinking of flying after butt implant surgery after a week. If I need to fly (one hour flight) with drains how does this affect walking through the TSA line? Will I be allowed to pass TSA with the drains?
Answer: Flying after butt implants surgery Dear A, You should not have any problem with security at the airport, however, in order to be on the safe side, carry a letter from your doctor , confirming that, indeed, you had surgery and the drain is necessary for proper healing. Additionally, call the airline company, notify them about your situation and ask them if anything else is required beyond your surgeon's letter. While on the plain, place a pillow behind your back, so that you will be sitting leaning forward and avoid pressure on your wound. Also, make sure to get help with your luggage and do not lift anything heavier than 5-10 pounds. Drink water in the airport and during the flight - 16 ounces, to avoid blood clots. Best of luck, Dr Widder

Answer: Buttock implant recovery Buttock implants and tummy tucks are cosmetic operations that have significant recovery involved. It's best to choose a time for these operations where you have extra time and flexibility in your schedule. Plainly speaking, you will be happier if you don't have to fly so soon after surgery. Some patients feel quite well after 1 week, and some have significant pain still, and that includes pain with sitting. Make sure your plastic surgeon is okay with the amount of sitting required for your travel plans, since sitting is quite restricted after that surgery.

Answer: Prolonged sitting may be an issue Hello and thank you for your excellent question. The drains should not be an issue, although you may need to explain the surgery to an agent. The bigger issue will be the prolonged sitting after your surgery, which could be uncomfortable, move your implants, and could increase your risk for a blood clot. Make sure to discuss your plans with your surgeon. This decision should be based on a detailed discussion with equal input from both you and your surgeon. Make sure you specifically look at before and after pictures of real patients who have had this surgery performed by your surgeon and evaluate their results. The most important aspect is to find a surgeon you are comfortable with. I recommend that you seek consultation in person with a qualified board-certified plastic surgeon. Good luck!
