Am I a candidate for fillers with autoimmune disease and nodules?

I'm curious if I would be a good candidate for HA fillers. I have Hashimotos and diffuse connective tissue disease. I have a +anti-dsdna and nodules on my fingers that come and go. I've seen many Drs, who haven't determined what the nodules are. My concern is that I may be at higher risk for nodule formation from fillers. I had a patch test done 6 mos ago and have had no negative reactions. Would this indicate that I would be unlikely to have any issues with fillers in my face?

Yes, you should be able to have fillers. It will take 1-2 weeks for final results. Symmetry and volume of the cheeks can be created with well-placed fillers (Voluma, Radiesse, Bellafill) and Sculptra. I recommend getting a formal evaluation with a cosmetic dermatologist. Best, Dr. Emer

It's hard to know if you would respond to the nodules. Some patients with autoimmune disease, particularly rheumatoid arthritis, may have an increased risk of reaction to the fillers. I think it is okay to try filler treatment but I would let your physician know about your medical history and I would stick to hyaluronic acid based fillers like Restylane and Juvederm which could be reversed with hyaluronidase if need be.
