I am in the process of researching doctors to schedule a BBL. There are a lot of scatted news articles reporting death following a plastic surgery procedure. I would like to know the likely hood of death as well as the statistics of woman that have died.

ALL COMERS: in a survey of plastic surgeons, the risk is estimated at 1/3000 cases.   In my practice I have performed over 1800 BBLS and over 2500 fat grafting cases.  there have been no cases of fat emboli and no deaths .

Death following BBL that are specific to this surgery are likely to occur following:1)large volume liposuction that refers to >3 to 5 L of tumescent infiltration and aspiration that can result in local anesthetic toxicity or fluid shifts.2)fat emboli that may occur during injection of fat into the buttocks region.The risk of both of these complications can be minimized by taking appropriate precautions. As well I want to remind you that you should always consider not only the size of your buttocks but also the frame around the buttocks such as your thighs, upper back, and maybe the tummy. My only advice is to consider the entire torso region when you are trying to improve the shape of your buttocks. Please see example below
