The data suggests that a Body Mass Index above 30 will place you at increased risk for complications during and after your elective procedure. These complications include infection, blood clots, delayed healing, loss of transplanted fat, and several others. While BMI is just a guide, there should not be a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon willing to operate on you at such an elevated weight. You should be closer to 220lbs. If you are having difficulty losing weight, seek assistance from your primary doctor and you may even wish to consult with a bariatric surgeon to discuss surgical weight loss surgery.Watch the video in the link to learn more about BMI and why it matters.
A good candidate has enough fat available for transfer in the procedure. The amount of fat that can be transferred in a BBL depends on how much fat the patient has to harvest and the amount of space there is to move the fat into. It is recommended for the patient to have a BMI of 30 or less. If you are too thin, a Brazilian Butt Lift may not be possible.
Optimal candidates for surgery should have reached a healthy stable weight preferably with a BMI < 30. My recommendation is for pre-op weight loss. This will lower your overall surgical risk profile and likelihood of complications. With regards to your specific question, there is no quick fix. Cosmetic surgery is not a means for weight loss. Traditional diet and exercise are the first line. For those patients with a BMI of 35 (you are currently at BMI of 36) and associated comorbidites (diabetes, hypertension etc) you may qualify for insurance coverage of bariatric surgery (surgical weight loss).I would estimate a weight loss necessity of nearly 70 lbs (in order to dip below BMI of 30).As always, discuss your concerns with a board certified plastic surgeon (ABPS).
No ideal weight exists for a BBL. This will depend upon where your fat is distributed and your goals for redistribution. Losing 70 pounds would put you close to a BMI of 30 which would reduce the risks of complications during and after surgery and enhance results. Recommend that you discuss your weight loss with PSs during consultations as they may feel comfortable with a BMI a little higher than 30 if you are in good health.
Hello dear! Thanks for the question and provided information as well.To be good candidate for a BBL, in general, you need to be physically healthy and at a stable weight, have realistic expectations, be a non-smoker and your BMI needs to be 30 or less.l recommend you to make an appointment with a board certified plastic surgeon to talk about your goals and anything you need to know.Good luck :)
Thank you for your question. The recommended BMI prior to an elective surgery is less than 30 for health and safety reasons. Your current BMI is 40 so I would recommend losing some weight first (about 70 lbs) to reduce the rate of complications and optimize your results.Seek a board certified plastic surgeon who performs many of these procedures, has great reviews and photos, and is an expert in this field.
Hello, Thank you for sharing the information, it is a pleasure for me to answer your question. It is difficult to evaluate the options without seeing photos, Yes, you can combine the procedures perfectly, if your state of health allows it, everything depends on your BMI, if it is within the normal range, above 35 it can generate risks. It is advisable to consult with a certified plastic surgeon, for a good evaluation, to provide you with all the information you need to know about the appropriate recommendations, so that you can achieve the desired goals in your body. I hope this answer will help you My best wishes for you...
Great question! You will be very swollen after surgery so you might need to get a size bigger. Most patients end up getting two or three different sizes as the swelling will decrease over the course of 4-6 weeks. I tell patients that it should be too tight or too loose - basically as tig...
Thank you for your question. It is very early to want to remove the fat. A lot of it will probably go on its own (the swelling will go as well 30-50 % of the fat injected). If after a few months you still feel the same, the fat can be suctioned out. Please discuss your concerns with your plastic ...
Thank you for this great question. Recent compiled data has shown that the death rate from the BBL procedure is the highest of any cosmetic procedure. The death rate has been published at 1 in 3,000. The deaths are from fat embolism when trauma to the gluteal veins and a pressure gradient causes...

Thank you for your question,Any surgery that is preformed no matter how advanced the technology currently, there are always risks and/or possibility of complications. Some are common complications that happen often and others are more rare occurrences like fat emboli or infections. With the i...
No, you cannot use other fat. Your body would reject it. If you are too thin, a Brazilian Butt Lift may not be possible. This procedure depends on the amount of fat the patient has to transfer.
