How long until shave biopsy spot fills in and swelling goes down?

Question

I had a shave biopsy done 5 weeks ago on my cheek. The spot is still indented. 1) how long will it continue to fill in? 2) any harm from massaging? I hear massaging breaks down scar tissue, so is that bad since I want it to continue to create scar tissue to fill in? 3) the spot & also lower eyelid is still swollen. Is it normal this long? 4) when I smile my "tear trough" is more noticeable b/c I think the inflexiblity of the scar tissue is concentrating the crease. What to do to minimize this?

this is going to need cosmetic treatments or surgical repair if it is indented this early. I suggest you see a cosmetic dermatologist who is an expert in scars.  Best, Dr. Emer.

Hello,It is difficult to make a full assessment without a picture but, typically, some level of scar is usually left after a biopsy is performed. With that said, I would give the scar a few months (or longer) before assessing its final appearance. If you are not satisfied with the results make sure to bring it up to the person who biopsied the lesion. There are many options for correcting any type of scarring including subcision (use a blade to free the scar from underneath), the use of fillers, lasers and/or radiofrequency. These approaches can yield great results.Best,
