How Many Rows of Single Hair Graft while creating a Hairline?

Question

It is believed in creating Natural Looking Hairline during a Hair Transplant, Use of Single Hair Graft on Fine Calibre is very imprtant. But is there like a thumb rule or Hair Transplant Procedure best practice that this single Hair Graft should be used for how many rows from where a hairline starts like is it only for 1-2 rows or is it till the first 3 rows or something ?

No rule on how many single hair grafts are needed for creating a hair line.  It can vary by doctor as well as patients (some who have narrow head to wide head).  It can range from 100 to 500 grafts.  There is no rule on rows either.  Some doctors free hand this approach (me).  Some doctors keep to a strict rule or numbers. Not one is better than the other.

This is very dependent on the scalp shape, hair graft type, and follicle types/features.  No large studies explaining this are available on the medline pubmed database so its based on aesthetic design and appreciation for the visuals of a hair restoration.

Thanks for the great question!The answer depends on a number of factors so there is no "one answer"Generally it's a nice luxury to work with two rows and 200 to 300 grafts. This facilitates creation of a soft natural look. Some people have fewer one haired grafts and others have more. For some people 150 grafts in 1 -2 main rows looks fabulous whereas for others 300-350 in 2-3 rows is optimalAlthough it's convenient to talk about "rows" the frontal hairline is ideally created with many irregularities (peaks and valleys, micro and macro irregularities) that is is actually difficult to speak precisely about rows. But in general, 1-2 rows plus irregularities built in works well for many of my patients. This translates to 150 to 350 grafts.

Your surgeon should never place rows of single grafts because they will look like soldiers lining up. I generally place 400 single grafts in a hairline in an irregular, irregular fashion.  see examples in the video below

This is part of the artistry and  skill of hair transplantation wherein the experienced surgeon factors in the qualities and quantities of the donor hair and characteristics of the recipient region. It is onlya general   rule that finer grafts are irregulary distrirubted to the frontal hairline to give a "natural"  appearance.
