My best suggestion would be to return to your surgeon so he or she can take a look and make sure there isn't an infection that needs to be treated by opening the incision or starting you on antibiotics.  If you are unable to see your surgeon the perhaps you could see your family doctor or...

After 6 months of healing, you should be able to treat your ears as you would normally.  By now, you should be completely healed but of course ask your barber to be gentle.
