Septoplasty appearance changes?

I have a scheduled septoplasty. At the end of my consult, surgeon gave almost what seemed like a required disclaimer that ‘procedure will not alter appearance.’ Dr is also well known for doing rhino work as well. With the info in the note attached, I can’t imagine these techniques won’t provide some appearance changes? (In a good way). I would love to add rhino work, but it seems some tip work/external work is already planned? Thoughts? Would love to save the OOP $ for rhino! Thanks.

Hello, hope you are well. You may be scheduled for a septoplasty, but the screenshot of this note describes a septorhinoplasty. A properly executed septoplasty does not change the external appearance of the nose (except in rare cases where the lower edge of the septum protrudes from either nostril), whereas a properly executed septorhinoplasty (functional or cosmetic) always does even if the changes are subtle. Interestingly, this note describes osteotomies, dorsal hump reduction, tongue-in-groove, and cephalic trim maneuvers which all serve no functional purpose--these are only done for cosmetic reasons. Although you may be eager to undergo a rhinoplasty, it is imperative that you also have informed consent for rhinoplasty and understand what to expect in terms of the changes in the shape of your nose.

Septoplasty alone is intended to improve breathing and shouid not alter the appearance at all. If you want a change in the appearance of your nose you need to make this clear with the surgeon ahead of time. And don’t just talk to a nurse or office staff about this. You and the surgeon need to be on the same page
