What type of doctor do I see for diastasis recti and likely hernia?

The best most accurate assessment would be to seek out and consult with a Board Certified Plastic and Reconstructive surgeon who has extensive experience with diastasis recti repair.  Both the DR and the hernia can be repaired simultaneously via tummy tuck. I have worked on patients with varying degrees of diastasis from mild to severe without the use of mesh, and excellent outcomes. Hope this is helpful!

You may be a good candidate for a tummy tuck, but additional information and an exam are always helpful to assess candidacy. All of these things can be corrected with a short scar tummy tuck performed by a board certified plastic surgeon.  I make the scar as low as possible so that it can be concealed by a bikini. The incision is generally made about 5 to 6 cm above the vulvar commissure.  This is usually below the superior border of the pubic hair.  I usually mark the incision on the patient so that there is no confusion. 

You need to see a board certified plastic surgeon that feels comfortable to repair your hernia at the same time as your abdominoplasty.  That is what you need to repair the muscle separation that you have.Hope that helps.

Hi thank you for your question. Most plastic surgeons should be confident to repair a diastasis and the benefit is they can often perform it through an abdominoplasty incision so the resulting scar should be discrete.In the US remember to ensure they are board certified.Best wishes.
