I am getting an umbilical hernia repaired and I also have diastasis recti. My surgeon told me that while he's repairing my hernia he can stitch together my abdominal muscles with mesh to correct the diastasis recti. I have heard different things when it comes to having another child.
Answer: Pregnancy and Diastasis Recti Repair While it is always best to have your diastasis recti repair performed after your are done bearing children, it is still possible to become pregnant and have a child. The difference is that instead of spreading the muscles of the midline, patients tend to stretch the muscles in an oblique fashion. Repair afterward becomes tricky if the redundant skin has already removed and a new belly button has been created. Best, Dr. Satey, Beverly Hills, Ca.

Answer: Can you have a baby after umbilical hernia and diastasis recti repair with mesh? I have not used a mesh in about 1000 tummy tucks, but there may be need in certain instances for mesh. Many plastic surgeons will tell you to wait for a TT until after having had all of the children you intend to have. However, if your current anatomy is very bothersome to you, a TT can certainly be performed and will not affect your ability to have children in the future. If you have excess fat on your sides or back and want the waist as small as possible, liposuction can be added to the TT. Weight gain, presence of stretch marks, separation of the muscles, and other factors may determine if revision surgery or another TT is needed after pregnancy.

Answer: Can you have a baby after umbilical hernia and diastasis recti repair with mesh? Very good question. The short answer is yes. Ive had several patients get pregnant after a tummy tuck. I will say, a few have come back for addressing the excess skin they developed after the procedure. I have not found the muscles separated again after the repair with mesh or prolene suture. That is only my experience, however.

Answer: Pregnancy after hernia repair Dear lucretiarogers11,you can get pregnant but it is impossible to tell how will your body react to pregnancy. There is a chance that your diastasis recti repair will fail and you will require a revision after the pregnancy. If you are concerned, I suggest you to discuss this with your plastic surgeon. Answer: Muscle repair only after finished with child bearing I would wait until you are finished with child bearing before repairing both the hernia and the diastasis recti. If/when you get pregnant you will ruin the results of probably both of the procedures and need a reoperation. Those reoperations are much more difficult and sometimes not successful. Good Luck!
