What is this ugly weird looking bulge that is pushing out my tummy when leaning back after mini with muscle repair? (Photo)

Question

Had mini about 2yrs ago, with muscle repair. Since mini tt I have noticed this ugly bulge pushing through along midline and it hurts, feels like a catching or stopping on top of the Doctor's work. Would like it to go away, can a full tt help get rid of this look and keep what's inside, inside. Can a PS take care of groin hernias at the same time for one time procedures? Would love to solve this problem and improve the look with out damage existing. i am here in RI IL . PS said to get 2nd opinion

Dear Foutch,   Thanks for submitting your picture. It is impossible to answer your question with reading the operative report and examining you.   In general, if the lump is soft, most likely it is hernia. If it is hard and the surgeon tightened the muscle in that area it could be -granuloma - reaction to suture, or organized hematoma.   From the limited exposure of the picture, it appears that your abdominal wall is loose from the chest bone to below the belly button. With that in consideration, you will benefit from full tummy tuck and at the same time the bulge can be explored and taken care of.  Always consult with experienced board certified plastic surgeons who operate in accredited surgery center for your safety. Most importantly, check the before and after pictures in the photo gallery, to make sure that they are numerous, consistent and without any irregularities , nice belly button and low scar.                      Best of luck,                                        Dr Widder

Hard to say without an exam. It could be a hernia, or if your belly button was moved significantly you could be feeling/seeing the stalk being pulled down. I would discuss your concerns with your surgeon. Good luck!

Thank you for your question and photographs. It is possible that the bulge is a ventral hernia or a diastasis of the rectus muscles above what was repaired. I would see your surgeon for an evaluation. Either can be fixed with a revision surgery of full tummy tuck. You would probably want a general surgeon to repair the groin hernias but that could be done at the same time. Good luck.
