How do I heal my skin rapidly after peeling way too early? (Photos)

Question

I got a salycic acid peel and the morning after I unintentionally tore off a piece of skin while picking at a blemish. It is very red and raw. I know the rest of my face will peel and clear up but this spot is very raw and I start class in three days! I need to heal my skin fast!

If you have accidentally pulled a piece of skin off prematurely after a chemical peel, I would suggest first, that you contact your provider at the office where you did the peel.Secondly, I would keep it moist and protected while it heals with Aquafor or Vaseline.  Strictly avoid any sun exposure and use mineral based sunscreen to protect while it's healing.Ultimately, you should be able to use TNS Recovery Complex by Skin Medica on the area to speed up the healing with a top layer of BioCorneum SPF scar gel over top.If necessary, lasers or microneedling can help even out the skin tone.I hope this helps.  Good luck.

Thank you for your question about healing after salicylic acid peel. The skin is in a very fragile state immediately after a peel. It is not uncommon to sometimes have an area or two that becomes irritated or raw, especially if you peel rather than trim the dead skin away. To avoid hyperpigmentation or scarring it is important that you keep these areas moist with Aquaphor or Vaseline...or any post-procedure ointments your provider may have recommended. Also, do not pick or scrub these areas, and avoid the sun. If you notice any discharge from the area, you need to contact your provider.

To be sure, see two or more experienced, licensed and board-certified providers in your area for a complete evaluation to make sure you are a good candidate and that it is safe for you to have treatment.

Hi Payton.b Thank you for your question, Never pick or peel at the skin after a chemical peel, let it shed on its own or you run the risk of complications and hyperpigmentation. I would contact the office where you got the chemical peel to let them know. They may also give you a wound healing/scar cream to keep that area hydrated so it does not scar. Best of Luck!
