Lymphocytic autoimmune disease and CoolSculpting?

Hashimoto's Thyroiditis is an autoimmune disease also called chronic lymphocytic thyroiditis which may lead to hypothyriodism secondary to chronic inflammation of the gland by lyphocytes which attack as if it were a foreign body.  CoolSculpting changes the cell wall of the fat cell making it appear different and when the body detects this difference, macrophages, which are another type of white cell, carry the cellular debris through the lymphatic system to the main lymphatic duct where the debris is then dumped into the digestive tract. Your lymph nodes, lymphatic channels and main lymphatic duct are a drainage system and are not responsible for your Hashimoto's disease.  The triglycerides stored in fat cells are metabolized and used as food by your body.  Your abdomen is swollen secondary to the treatment which causes inflammation and fluid retention or edema in the area treated.  This swelling will resolve and you will begin too see your abdomen get smaller in the treatment area.  I have treated patients with Hashimotos and their treatments are no different than those of patients without the disease.  Every patient is an individual case and story.  Just be sure to  treat in a clinic with a knowledgeable physician.  All the best, Alexis Parker MD
