Can bone erosion be caused by screws being removed?

Jubilant423006
I had cheek implants in September, 2000, with two screws in each implant. I then had orthognathic surgery in May, 2008, by a surgeon who removed the screws while he performed the orthognathic surgery but left the implants. I have bone erosion which shows up on the CBCT scan. I have to have the cheek implants removed in order to have a revision orthognathic surgery done. Was my bone erosion caused by the screws being removed? I think the implants are mylar.
