Is this an allergic reaction to 1 vial of Restalyn? I had put in my lips & mouth corners yesterday. Will prednisone help?(photo)

It is common to get swelling after fillers into the lips. It is not normal to have irregularities or severe swelling. If you are unhappy you should speak to your physician and have the area injected with hyaluronidase, an enzyme that reverses the hyaluronic acid filler. For the next injections, consider Restylane Silk with cannula injection, this technique will limit the pain, swelling or bruising after the filler placement. Yes, Prednisone and cold compresses might help with your swelling, but the definitive treatment is injection with hyaluronidase in order to dissolve the Restylane. Since you had more success with Juvederm in the past, you probably should use it again instead of Restylane.

See your doctor as soon as possible for evaluation. From the photos, it may be a viral outbreak (cold sore) which is typically a rare complication seen with laser treatment. A physical exam is important at this time. Good luck.

mygoodlife, This is not just swelling, this is angioedema and has been reported following hyaluronic acid lip injections. Angioedema can be serious and treatment options include antihistamines, but corticosteroids and ice packs can help.  I would recommend seeing your dermatologist or medical provider who is familiar with angioedema.  Angioedema can have many causes, including latex gloves.  

Restylane reactions are very rare--I reported one a number of years ago. the swelling you have is not allergic in nature and should subside over the next week

You might have had Restylane Silk. It tends to swell more than the other fillers. Steroids will help improve this. It is not an allergy. Silk needs to be injected differently and it can't be massaged too hard after injection by you or the injector. It takes a few days to come back to normal. I prefer Silk to all other products but it requires an injector who is experienced with it.

You should certainly call the doctor that performed the injections. You want to make sure that this is normal swelling that will resolve with prednisone and not that you have blood into the tissue of your lips.
