Our office has many different treatments for scars depending on the depth of atrophy or hypertrophy. Scars require a combination approach using our HI DEF protocol which uses a combination of lasers, topical scar modulation, and RF treatments to pixelate scars, improve contour, reduce hyperpigmentation, and improve the visibility of the scars so that they are no longer visible in ambient light. Everyone has a unique pattern of scarring and we employ our HIDEF technique to improve texture, color, contour, and topography. We often use a combination of treatments that begin with a careful examination to examine the micro texturing of the acne scars. Atrophic scars and indented scars can benefit from injectable fillers such as Radiesse, Sculptra, and Restylane with or without subcision to remove tethered scars and atrophic depression. Hyper-redness in scars can be improved with V beam laser, Excel V, BBL, IPL, and Venus RF to improve the redness and reduce the visibility of deep scars. Fractional Thulium laser and clear & brilliant can also reduce the inflammation and redness of the scar when combined with topical therapy. Fractional lasers such as Fraxel, erbium, and CO2 laser can be combined with radio frequency and also fractional RF to improve textual issues and microtopography. Subcision and TCA cross are also used for deep ice pick scars and narrow valley scars in order to improve the micro texture. Above all, our combination approach with our clinical nurses and board-certified plastic surgeons can improve the quality of your skin by using at home Melarase creams combined with PRP treatments in our office to improve your skin quality and tone. I recommend getting a formal evaluation with an experienced team of experts in order to reduce your scarring. Finally, hyperpigmentation of scars can be improved with at-home Melarase AM, Melarase PM, and Melapads to help reduce active PIH and melanin deposition.Best, Dr. Karamanoukian
Hello and thank you for your question!IPL also known as Photofacial is a great non-invasive way to effectively treat brown spots, broken capillaries, wrinkles, tighten and smooth the skin and even reduce pore size. The intense pulse light stimulates collagen production leaving you with refreshed, renewed and more even toned skin. It can most definitely be done on the face, neck and chest. I hope this helps !!
IPL is a versatile treatment that can address any of these areas. The intense pulsed light therapy is particularly helpful in treating sun damage, redness, and pigmentation issues. IPL treatments are quick and very effective for skin mottling. We typically use a series of three treatments for best results and then a maintenance treatment once a year for clear beautiful skin for life. It is our most popular light treatment. However, it is not the only device used for these concerns, and if you have deep wrinkles, you’ll have to choose a different laser. In my practice, we offer more than 50 laser and light devices that allow us to customize a patient’s treatment to their precise needs, goals, and skin type and tone. When your treatment is personalized to your specific situation, you will experience the best possible results. I encourage you to work with an experienced, board-certified dermatologist who has the expertise to tailor your treatment plan and produce an optimal outcome for you.
IPL can be a great option, but many of the treatment options are based on the amount of sun damage AND your genetic background. Ethnic skin is sensitive and reactive, so if you have darker skin tones in your family ancestry, make sure you select a board certified dermatologist to avoid undesirable outcomes.
IPL isnt as good as BBL, we combine this with clear and brilliant, halo, or fraxel every 2-4 months. at. home peels like cosmelan or enlighten or aerify can be done between with dermarolling weekly.at home peels like cosmelan, enlighten and aerify along with dermarolling (MTS roller with anteage MD ampules weekly from emeragecosmetics.com see eye rolling package for weekly treatment) should be started now to prevent further aging. visit emeragecosmetics.com where we ship medical grade skincare all over the world AND do free virtual skincare consults daily. Proceeds benefit BLM and LGBTQ+ charities/organizations.For facial rejuvenation, I would suggest a combination approach of 1) skin care with products and PRP/microneedling2) PDT light therapy few times a month with growth factors3) laser treatments like clear and brilliant regularly and a few times a year Fraxel/halo Viva, Co2/Erbium4) Sculptra injections a few times a year for collagen production with fillers like juvederm/restylane/belotero/radiesse/bellafill5) thermage/ultherapy for yearly skin tightening with or without PDO or cone based instalift threads for lifting6) botox every 2-3 months to stop movement lines and prevent lines at rest7) deep microneedling RF like Fractora/morpheus8 for tightening of the skin8) Vascular laser like vbeam/excel V or BBL forever young treatment every quarter (3-4 months)Best, Dr. Emer.
For my patients we have Cutera's Xeo which is an amazing IPL that can give really good results. We typically target browns and reds with it, which means brown spots and pigment with blood vessels. However we encourage patients to do it 4 times a year since one study shows beautiful rejuvenation and improvement in skin quality over a ten year time frame also. Make sure to find a provider that knows the device well. Experience matters here.
Hello and thank you for your question. Yes IPL can work for all the areas you listed. That being said, it does depend on the amount of damage, skin type and condition, etc. I suggest making an appointment with a reputable doctor for a consultation in order to determine what’s best for you. Best wishes.Dr. T
IPL is a well proven treatment which can not only improve brown spots and obvious sun damage, but also improve rosacea, broken capillaries, acne and build collagen. It can be used on any part of the human body except for eyelids/inside the eye socket. If BBL (a particular form of IPL) is done with specific protocols, research from Stanford also shows slowing of skin aging when done 2-4 times per year.
IPL can help remove sun damage of the face, neck, and chest. An experienced provider should adjust the settings for the different areas due to the differences in the skin. Hope this helps!Johnson C. Lee, MDBoard-Certified Plastic Surgeon
We do not recommend treating at home with any lasers or home devices for your keloid scars. We recommend being evaluated and treated at a Medical Spa with an experienced Laser Technician Professional. At-home devices are not as effective and can cause unwanted side effects, especially if you do...
Peels like cosmelan and enlighten with AERIFY as maintenance; creams like cosmelan 2, vivatia foam, is clinicl pro heal serum, and resttorsa eye serum and 10x help the discoloration. non ablative lasers do better than IPL for this but BBL can be used. see emeragecosmetics.com (see link) for o...
As you mentioned, IPL can be used to address a variety of skin concerns. However, I would not recommend using an at-home device designed for hair removal to treat pigmentation. At best, you won't see results - at worst, you may end up with discoloration or scarring. PLEASE avoid your eye...
