How long does dysport usually start working after getting 45units each side of masseters?

It is Sarah again from Aesthetic Skin MD with Dr. Anil Shah in Chicago! It is normal for Dysport to fully settle in after about two weeks from getting injections. After about two to four days, you should start feeling the paralytic affects. If you aren't feeling the effects after about two weeks, then it might be time to visit your provider again for advice or even more injections.

It is a very strong muscle and typically requires a minimum of 60 units of Dysport (20U of Botox) per side to get results. If the purpose is to slim the jaw then it could take up to 6 weeks to notice a visible result. This is also not a one time treatment. Most people have to continue to get treated every 3-4 months for an extended period of time to weaken the muscle to get relief from TMJ, teeth grinding, or an aesthetically slimmer jawline.

The effects of any neurotoxin, including Dysport, will take effect after approximately 3-7 days depending on the person and the product. The effects will last about 3-4 months. If this is not the case for you, it is possible that you may require an increase in the dose of neurotoxin or possibly a switch in product.

It can take about 3-5 days for results from Dysport to be evident and about 14 days to reach its peak effect. If the desired result is not seen after 2 weeks of your treatment you may need additional units and I would contact your provider for a follow-up.

Dysport results can become evident as early as 3-4 days after treatment. However, some patients don’t see the full results until the two-week mark. If you are using the product to slim the lower face, you may continue to see improvement for much longer. If you don’t see the desired outcome after two weeks, you can schedule a follow-up with your doctor to see if you need additional injections. Always work with an experienced, qualified injector with the expertise to produce the best possible results.

It has been my experience that Dysport has an onset of action about 4 days out and lasts about 4 months. Maybe your provider didn't give you enough units to make a difference. Remember, Dysport usually uses twice as many units on average as Botox. Go have a follow up visit with your provider and see what he or she thinks. Hope this is helpful. JB

Botox and Dysport (a.k.a. neuromodulators) treatments are a very popular procedure here at Solomon Facial Plastic in Toronto. At SFP, we offer various different options for neuromodulators, such as Botox, Nuceiva, and Dysport. For Dysport treatments, it can take up to 10-14 days to see the final result.... however with masseters, because it is such a large muscle, it can actually take up to one month to see the true final result. This is why I recommend coming in for a follow-up after one month of having Dysport in the masseters.

Some people begin to notice some effect from Dysport after a few days, but I usually have patients wait at least 1-2 weeks to have a better idea of their results.  It normally does take at least 2 weeks after Dysport treatment to the masseters to begin seeing any decrease in the size of the muscle.  

Results may take 3-5 days after injection. Please contact a qualified provider or a board-certified physician with extensive experience in these procedures.

Dysport usually takes anywhere from 2-5 days to start taking effect. In some people, it may take as long as 10-14 days before full effects are seen. Typically, the masseter muscle is injected for 2 reasons: for TMJ/bruxism related discomfort or to smoothen the prominence and shape of the jawline. Sometimes , I like to bring patients back for a follow-up appointment 2 week after injection to assess results and see if more is needed.
