Hello, can using topical retinoids be a risk factor in causing vitiligo? How about bleaching agent likes benzoyl peroxide or even lightening agents such as azelaic acid?

When considering the potential effects of topical retinoids, benzoyl peroxide, or azelaic acid on skin conditions such as vitiligo, it's important to understand their primary uses and mechanisms of action.

Retinoids are primarily used to treat acne, photoaging, and other dermatological conditions by promoting cell turnover and reducing inflammation. There is no evidence to suggest that retinoids cause vitiligo, which is an autoimmune condition characterized by the loss of pigment-producing cells.

Similarly, benzoyl peroxide is a common acne treatment that works by killing bacteria and reducing inflammation. It does not have a known association with causing vitiligo.
