Severe swelling at 7 weeks post revision with rib graft. Why do I keep getting worse with swelling?

In general the swelling will subside in a normal fashion after a rhinoplasty or revision rhinoplasty. When a rib graft is used, it usually tents up the skin and allows for more space for swelling to accumulate. The maximum amount of scar tissue is usually accumulated until six weeks, then things calm down. The swelling should go down but speak with your surgeon if you have specific questions.Best of luck

Dear Orangecream, I would suggest that you discuss this with your surgeon. He/she will know best where you are in the recovery phase and can best answer your concerns. Make sure that you continue to sleep elevated, reduce heat and/or exercise, reduce sodium levels, and see your surgeon for follow up. Best regards, Michael V. Elam, M.D.
