What procedure would I need to get rid of a c-section shelf? (photo)

Question

I had my child 5 years ago. I have been working out and I am at my goal weight/pre-baby weight (when I was happy with my body). My stomach seems flat except for a small bulge/shelf just above my c-section scar. I am very unhappy with it. How can I get rid of it? I am somewhat hesitant of having surgery and don't want a big scar. (The scar along my ribcage is unrelated).

Thanks for your inquiry.  From the photo provided it appears that you are fit and healthy.  For patients with just a small overhang of skin above the c-section scar and no upper abdominal skin laxity or bulge, a mini tummy tuck usually provides very good results.

You are in good shape but you have skin redundancy, which will not improve with time.  The only way to improve the contour is with a mini-abdominoplasty.  The scar will be a little longer than the folding crease that appears in the photo.  I think it will be a good trade to improve contour of the lower abdomen and have a scar that you can easily hide with a bikini or underwear.  I would advise you to see a board certified plastic surgeon for an expert opinion.

Your abdomen looks like it is in good shape with only small amount of protrusionas a result of stretching the abdominal muscles from your pregnancy.The shelf would be best treated with a mini tummy tuck which will allow you to remove theexcess skin as well as improving your scar.
