Anti hairloss Meds, do they work at preventing future loss or are people prone to losing their hair but at a slower pace when on these pills? Do they work forever or for a short time ? Long term side effects can be? Helpful or a waste?

Genetic androgenic alopecia is a trait you are born with.  Taking medications will not stop the hair loss.  Propecia is a drug men take to slow down the hair loss process.  It does not stop hair loss.  Avodart works in similar ways as Propecia but is not FDA approved for treating androgenic alopecia.  It also does not stop hair loss.

Avodart (dutasteride) is not licensed for hair loss. Although it is used off license by some doctors, there are many who do not prescribe it for hair loss.Propecia (finasteride) is licensed for hair loss but its efficacy varies from person to person.It is definitely worth trying and if it works for you and stops progression then this effect may last for many years. If it only slows down your hair loss then your hair will continue to thin slowly.

Finasteride is FDA approved for androgenetic alopecia (male balding). Avodart is not FDA approved but is sometimes used off label. These drugs have different effects in different people. For some men it prevents hair loss and does a very good job for many years until slow hair loss resumes. For others it improves hair density significantly for many years and then slow rates of hair loss start up again. All medications and treatments have potential side effects. Be sure to speak to your physician about all the benefits. and risks of finasteride and Avodart. Some men are comfortable with the low rate of side effects and begin the drug. Other men are not willing to start the pill even with a small chance of side effects. SIDE EFFECTS1. depression and mood alterations2. decreased sex drive3. impotence4. ejaculatory problems5. enlargement of breast tissue6. pain in the testiclesThis is only a partial list and you'll want to speak to your doctor and the company about all side effects.
