How many min should IPL be done? 20 mins enough? Best setting level for max results? Is it necessary to do microderm first?

This is certainly a treatment plan of choice by the provider.  In our practice, we do not use the microderm with the IPL; however, that is not to say that the combination would not give you optimal results over time.  The best thing to do is to ask the provider why the combination and also why did the settings change.  I hope that helps.

IPL is a great treatment for facial rejuvenation. The length of time it takes to perform a treatment is not important. What is important are the results. Different lasers have different spot sizes and speeds allowing for faster or slower treatments. Also, settings vary from device to device and are always individualized for each patient depending on her skin type and concerns. We routinely combine ablative treatments such as laser peels with IPL to allow for more exfoliation of pigment. I perform non-ablative treatments such as IPL before ablative treatments. A series of treatments is required and results are seen slowly over time. Please consult with a doctor for specific recommendations. Good luck!

If anyone can tell you the settings they are going to use before seeing you and seeing the response-avoid them at all costs!  IPL and laser treatments are highly individualized and may even change from one treatment to another in the same person.  It should not be done in a "cook book" fashion.  The treatment phase of IPL sessions may take between 2-5 treatments depending on multiple factors.  I don't find microderm very effective but we have often combined IPL with Halo laser treatments with great effectiveness.  Hope this helps.  Best.

The amount of time needed to complete an IPL treatment can vary from provider to provider in how long it takes to complete.  Typically it will take about 20 minutes to complete the actual treatment.  The settings for the optimal IPL treatment also will vary for each individual.  It is important to set the setting to your skin tone as there is a fine line between getting optimal treatment and using too much fluence that can damage the skin.  If you didn't see areas of dark pigment you can discuss this with your provider to see if it's an option to try a higher energy safely for your skin type.  Microderm isn't a must before having an IPL but can compliment a treatment to have before or after your IPL.  Best of luck to you!!!
