Is IPL (ellipse) a good alternative for red post-acne marks? (photos)

Question

I have eaten Isotretenoin against acne and it has given a good effect. (5 months ago) Now I have red / pink marks left on my cheeks. I'd love to get them removed.. I am scandinavian with extremely pale & sensitive skin and therefore can not withstand chemical peel, etc. I have considered IPL, but I know that some pigments can get worse from IPL. Is it a suitable treatment for this kind of discolourasion or is it better to use e.g. A vitamin and let time heal?

Hi hobbe123,Thanks for your question. I'm so glad you were able to get good results from the isotretinoin. It is a bit too soon, in my opinion, to do IPL. Isotretinoin makes your skin more sensitive and slower to heal for at least 6 months after stopping the medication. Depending on the person, it may take even longer. I would consult your treatment provider on the best timing for your particular skin.However, I do think it will eventually be a good treatment for your remaining redness! IPL is actually the most safe in "extremely pale" skin and can be quite effective for reducing redness. Best of luck!

Thank you for your question hobbe123. IPL is a great treatment for facial rejuvenation, including redness. Isotretinoin (Accutane) is an aggressive treatment for acne which slows the skin's healing response. I wait 6-12 months after stopping Accutane before performing a laser treatment. Please consult with a doctor for specific recommendations. Good luck!
