Will a BBL help or further harm some minor sciatica I’m still experiencing from a prior herniated disc?

The swelling may temporarily aggravate this condition, but this is really more about the source of the sciatic pain, particularly if this is result of herniated disc or something remote from the location of BBL.  The sciatic nerve is easily avoided in fat placement,  as the injections are performed superficial to it.   I have not seen a sciatic nerve problem in thousands of cases. Kenneth Hughes, MD, Board Certified Plastic SurgeonLos Angeles, CA

Thank you for your questions. Sciatica is caused from a nerve irritation. This is caused usually from compression and it a deep process. BBL surgery is a superficial surgical procedure that usually should not involve deep nerve structures. It is most likely that a BBL will have no significant impact on your issues. However, surgical positioning for the procedure may make some temporary changes in your symptoms. Best to consult with your surgeon going forward.Best of luck!

You should check with you spine doctor, but BBL would be safe with previous herniated disc. Your sciatic nerve travels very deep in your buttocks and pelvis, and would not be near where fat transfer is done. It's best to make sure that issue is well taken care of before having cosmetic surgery, since you want to have the safest and best recovery possible.
