Steroid shot for rash 5 days after kybella and Sculpsure - will my results be diminished?

Dear experts- will getting a steroid shot for skin rash reduce the effectiveness of kybella and sculpsure? I had those 2 on Thursday and got a really bad itchy rash all over my arms, legs, face. I couldn't tolerate it so today went to an urgent care and they gave me a steroid shot. It has been mentioned that taking any kind of anti inflammatory can reduce the effectiveness of kybella and sculpsure. Is that true? Sincerely appreciate your help

It is unlikely that your steroid shot will negatively impact your results. Keep in mind, it can take 6-8 weeks and more than one treatment to start to see results with Kybella and 3-6 months to see final results with Sculpsure. To improve Kybella results, I recommend a combination approach with thermage, ultherapy, exilis. Also, a combination of treatments is needed for best results with Sculpsure. I recommend combining Sculpsure or coolsculpting with Vanquish and Venus Legacy/Exilis Ultra treatments. A VASER hi definition procedure would give you the best results with fat removal and athletic definition but would require more downtime. No. You should not adversely affect your results with a steroid injection. Especially since it's been 5 days. Keep in mind that it is going to take awhile for your final results from either procedure so be patient. Sorry to hear that you got a rash but hope that the steroids took care of it.

Getting a steroid shot should not adversely impact the results from your Kybella injection.  I wouldn't worry.  It may take up to 2 months to see the full results of your Kybella treatment, so stick in there.

Each of these procedures works differently to dissolve fat, and the resultant inflammation is important to tissue healing and tightening, but the short-lived influence of a steroid shot (about 3 days for the typical Celestine shot) should not be enough to change your result. We often give corticosteroids for a few days if the swelling from Kybella is more than expected and have noted no adverse effects.

Thank you for your question dipash1101. I am sorry to hear about your
situation. Kybella is the first and thus-far only FDA-approved non-surgical
injectable treatment for the double chin. SculpSure is a non-invasive body contouring device using infrared light from a laser. Theoretically the inflammatory process that occurs after a Kybella treatment stimulates collagen formation to tighten the skin. Steroids work as anti-inflammatory medications. Therefore there may be a possibility that there may be reduced tightening in the area. With SculpSure the inflammatory process helps remove the fat cells so anti-inflammatory medications may possibly slow this down. If my patient had a steroid shot after such treatments I would tell her not to worry. Please consult with a doctor for specific recommendations. Good luck!

No, a steroid injection especially 5 days after these treatments will not effect inflammation adversely. Yes, you do need inflammation to occur, especially in the context of Kybella (or Belkyra as it is known in Australia), however the body's immune system would be strong enough for both treatments to work. Like Dr Emer I do like combining treatments for best results. Steroids do decrease the inflammatory response and can suppress the immune system which is why they work great for rashes.  However, with Kybella you should be okay since the drug dissolves the fat on injection.  Sculpsure should be okay too.  You are not on it daily after all.
